Telecommunication Rules, 2026 for Authorisation and Migration Framework

Ministry of Communications, Department of Telecommunications, has notified four sets of rules under the Telecommunications Act, 2023 relating to authorisation for principal telecommunication services, captive telecommunication services, miscellaneous telecommunication services and migration of existing licences to the authorisation framework. These rules were issued after consideration of objections and suggestions received on the respective draft rules.

The notified rules prescribe the framework for grant of authorisation, eligibility criteria, application procedure, processing fees, terms and conditions, migration of existing licences to the new authorisation regime, renewal, compliance requirements and portal-based administration under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. The rules cover principal telecommunication services, captive telecommunication services, miscellaneous telecommunication services and migration of existing licence holders to corresponding authorisations. The provisions apply to eligible entities seeking authorisation or migration under the Act and came into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
