Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in consultation with the Central Pollution Control Board, issued amendments to notifications G.S.R. 702(E) dated November 12, 2024 and G.S.R. 703(E) dated November 12, 2024. The notifications substitute the existing Schedule relating to the List of White Category Sectors under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
The notifications substitute the Schedule titled “List of White Category Sectors” under both Acts with a revised list comprising 87 industrial plants or sectors. The revised Schedule includes sectors such as hydrogen production through electrolysis using renewable energy, compressed bio-gas plants, medical oxygen, solar power generation through solar photovoltaic cells and wind power, manufacturing of solar modules, digital thermometer manufacturing, food and food processing units meeting specified capacity and fuel criteria, small-scale restaurants or cloud kitchens without accommodation facilities, and non-leather footwear manufacturing.
The Schedule also includes specified sub-sectors of existing Green Category sectors and prescribes conditions relating to process type, fuel usage, production capacity, wastewater generation, and effluent discharge for applicability. The substituted Schedule applies for the purposes of the respective notifications issued under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
