Reference is made to the Food Safety Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2025 dated 8th August 2025, which specified 1st July 2026 as the date of enforcement for mandatory declaration of Coffee-Chicory Mixture on the front of package. FSSAI received representations regarding challenges in displaying the proposed box declaration, particularly on packs with Principal Display Panel (PDP) area less than 100 cm². The Food Authority approved a revised declaration option.

Food Authority has decided to keep the notification of 8th August 2025 in abeyance. Food Business Operators may use an additional declaration on the front of pack, as set out below, which shall come into force on 1st July 2027.

1. Every package containing a mixture of coffee and chicory shall have following label declaration on the front of the package in minimum 1 mm font size except for the packs with PDP area more than 100cm² where the minimum font height shall be 2 mm:

2. Every package containing instant Coffee-Chicory mixture made from blends of coffee and chicory shall have following label declaration on the front of the package in minimum 1 mm font size except for the packs with PDP area more than 100cm² where the minimum font height shall be 2 mm:

This direction is addressed to all concerned Food Business Operators, with copies to Commissioners of Food Safety of all States/UTs and all Regional Directors, FSSAI.
