Applicable Section/Rule: Section 3 read with clauses 7 and 16 of Sugar (Control) Order, 2025

Central Government has issued directions under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 read with the Sugar (Control) Order, 2025, concerning stock holding limits for dealers of sugar.

No dealer of sugar shall hold any stock for a period exceeding thirty days from the date of receipt of such stock, and shall not keep sugar stock exceeding 4000 quintals at any time and in any place throughout the country. This does not apply to stock held on Government account, or to stock held by dealers nominated by a State Government, or an officer authorised by it, for distribution through fair price shops under the Public Distribution System. State Governments or Union territory Administrations shall fix stock holding and turnover limits within their jurisdictions, subject to the condition that such limits or periods shall not exceed those specified in this Order. For computing the stock holding period, the date on which the dealer receives the stock shall be included. All dealers are required to declare and regularly update the stock position of sugar on the portal https://foodstock.dfpd.gov.in/ of the Department of Food and Public Distribution. This applies to all sugar dealers across the country, and to State Governments and Union territory Administrations in fixing their respective stock holding and turnover limits.
