BIS Establishes Eight Indian Standards for Electrical Appliances, IT Networks, and Programming Languages

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, notified the establishment of eight Indian Standards in pursuance of Sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The notification was published in Part III, Section 4 of the Extraordinary Gazette of India.

Eight Indian Standards have been established with effect from July 24, 2026. Where an older version of the standard exists, it shall remain in force concurrently until the date of withdrawal indicated below. The established standards and their concurrent withdrawal details are as follows:

  1. IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 16): 2026 [IEC 60335-2-16: 2022] – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 16 Food Waste Disposers. Established: July 24, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  2. IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 26): 2026 [IEC 60335-2-26: 2024] – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 26 Clocks (Second Revision). Established: July 24, 2026. Supersedes IS 302-2-26: 2014 (Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 26 Clocks – First Revision); withdrawal date: January 24, 2027.
  3. IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 36): 2026 [IEC 60335-2-36: 2021] – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 36 Commercial Electric Cooking Ranges, Ovens, Hobs and Hob Elements. Established: July 24, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  4. IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 49): 2026 [IEC 60335-2-49: 2021] – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 49 Commercial Electric Appliances for Keeping Food and Crockery Warm. Established: July 24, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  5. IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 54): 2026 [IEC 60335-2-54: 2022] – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances — Safety, Part 2 Particular Requirements, Section 54 Surface-Cleaning Appliances for Household Use Employing Liquids or Steam. Established: July 24, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  6. IS/ISO/IEC/IEEE 8802-1X: 2021 – Telecommunications and Exchange Between Information Technology Systems — Requirements for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, Part 1X Port-Based Network Access Control (First Revision). Established: July 24, 2026. Supersedes IS/ISO/IEC/IEEE 8802-1X: 2013; withdrawal date: January 24, 2027.
  7. IS/ISO/IEC 11179-6: 2023 – Information Technology — Metadata Registries (MDR), Part 6 Registration (First Revision). Established: July 24, 2026. Supersedes IS/ISO/IEC 11179-6: 2015; withdrawal date: January 24, 2027.
  8. IS/ISO/IEC 14882: 2024 – Programming Languages — C++ (Second Revision). Established: July 24, 2026. Supersedes IS/ISO/IEC 14882: 2020 (Programming Languages — C++, First Revision); withdrawal date: January 24, 2027.

All impacted standards relate to electrical appliances, IT network access control, metadata registries, and programming language specifications.
