National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, regulates the retail pricing of scheduled and notified drug formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. In exercise of powers conferred by paragraphs 5, 11 and 15 of the DPCO, 2013, read with S.O. 1394(E) dated 30.05.2013, S.O. 5249(E) dated 11.11.2022 and S.O. 3516(E) dated 30.06.2026, NPPA has fixed the ceiling retail price (exclusive of GST) for 11 drug formulations, specifying the strength, unit and manufacturer/marketing company against each.

The formulations covered include Drotaverine Hydrochloride and Mefenamic Acid Tablets; Empagliflozin, Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets (10mg and 25mg strengths); Escitalopram Oxalate and Clonazepam Mouth Dissolving Tablets; Glimepiride Tablets (3mg and 4mg); Telmisartan and Amlodipine Tablets; Telmisartan and Chlorthalidone Tablets; Thiocolchicoside, Aceclofenac and Paracetamol Tablets; Voglibose and Metformin Hydrochloride (SR) Tablets; and Dolutegravir, Lamivudine and Tenofovir Alafenamide Tablets.

Manufacturers named against each formulation in the notified table must not fix a retail price exceeding the notified ceiling. Any other existing manufacturer launching the same “new drug” (as defined under paragraph 2(1)(u) of the DPCO, 2013) within 12 months of gazette publication may market it at a price not exceeding the notified ceiling, subject to filing Form-IA on IPDMS 2.0 along with supporting documents within one month of launch. Manufacturers must issue a price list in Form-V under paragraph 24 of the DPCO, 2013 to NPPA through IPDMS, with a copy to the concerned State Drug Controller and dealers/distributors; every retailer and dealer must display the price list and any supplementary price list conspicuously at their premises. GST may be added only where actually paid or payable to the Government on the notified price. Any non-compliance with the notified price makes the concerned manufacturer/marketing company liable to deposit the overcharged amount along with interest under the DPCO, 2013 read with the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

The order is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority and signed by Bhiva Ram Yadav, Assistant Director, NPPA.
