Applicable Act/Rule: General Network Access (GNA) Regulations
Applicable Section/Rule: Regulation 5.2 and Regulation 5.2(e)
Effective Date: September 14, 2026
Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL) issued an advisory on enhancing the energy storage capacity (MWh) of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects that have already received connectivity, without increasing their approved charging/discharging capacity (MW).
Applicants must apply under Regulation 5.2, showing additional MW capacity as Nil and specifying the proposed MWh enhancement separately. Conn-BG1 and Conn-BG3 requirements apply under the GNA Regulations; however, Conn-BG3 is not currently being sought pending clarification from CERC. Applicants may subsequently be required to submit Conn-BG3, failing which approval for additional MWh capacity may be revoked and Conn-BG1 encashed.
After applicable regulatory compliance is completed, CTUIL may issue the revised capacity intimation without waiting for a CMETS meeting; the matter will subsequently be placed before the meeting for information. Land, financial closure and commissioning requirements must also be met. Earlier MWh-enhancement requests will be processed under this advisory.
