BIS Establishes Six Indian Standards for Textiles, E-Waste, Stationery, Coatings, and Geosynthetics

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, notified the establishment of six Indian Standards in pursuance of Sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The notification was published in Part III, Section 4 of the Extraordinary Gazette of India.

Six Indian Standards have been established with effect from July 21, 2026. Where an older version exists, it shall remain in force concurrently until the withdrawal date indicated. The established standards are:

  1. IS 14452: 2026 [ISO 3758: 2023] – Textiles — Care Labelling Code Using Symbols (Third Revision). Established: July 21, 2026. Supersedes IS 14452: 2023 [ISO 3758: 2012] (Textiles — Care Labelling Code Using Symbols, Second Revision); withdrawal date: January 21, 2027.
  2. IS 17862: 2026 – E-Waste Management — Guidelines (First Revision). Established: July 21, 2026. Supersedes IS 17862: 2022 (Storage, Collection, Dismantling and Recycling of E-Waste — Guidelines); withdrawal date: January 21, 2027.
  3. IS 19700: 2026 – Stationery — Cutter Blades — Specification. Established: July 21, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  4. IS 19878: 2026 [ISO 15730: 2023] – Metallic and Other Inorganic Coatings — Electropolishing as a Means of Smoothing and Passivating Stainless Steel. Established: July 21, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  5. IS 19884: 2026 – Geosynthetic Clay Liner — Specification. Established: July 21, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
  6. IS 19885: 2026 – Geosynthetics — Drainage Geo-Composite — Specification. Established: July 21, 2026. No standard to be withdrawn.
