Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has notified the Gas Cylinders (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i). A draft was published vide G.S.R. 146(E) dated February 24, 2026, and made available to the public on February 25, 2026. Objections and suggestions were duly considered by the Central Government. The amendment modifies the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016. Entities dealing with industrial gas cylinders and applicants for gas cylinder licences are impacted.
“8A. For industrial gas cylinders, higher stacking and lesser gangway may be permitted by the licensing authority, if cylinders are packed in certified structured packaging (racks, cages) with adequate straps, clips or interlocks to ensure the integrity of the cylinder, its fittings and proper maneuvering of cylinders are ensured with these certified structured packaging and loading and unloading procedure shall comply with the national or international codes.”
