NCW Issues Advisory for Mandatory POSH Audits & Robust Workplace Safety Mechanisms Nationwide

Applicable Act/Rule: Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013

National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued an advisory to all States and Union Territories directing authorities to strengthen the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The advisory has been circulated to Chief Secretaries, Directors General of Police, District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police to ensure effective enforcement of workplace safety measures.

NCW has advised all States and Union Territories to strengthen implementation of the POSH Act by recommending:

  1. Mandatory annual POSH audits for establishments employing 10 or more persons.
  2. Establishment of State-level POSH Monitoring Cells or digital compliance dashboards.
  3. Constitution and proper functioning of Internal Committees (ICs) in all eligible establishments.
  4. Strengthening of Local Committees and appointment of District/Nodal Officers for effective implementation.
  5. Regular POSH awareness programmes, capacity building and specialised training for IC/LC members.
  6. Timely submission of annual reports, public disclosure of complaint mechanisms and promotion of the SHe-Box platform.
  7. Periodic monitoring by District Authorities and adoption of measures to ensure safer and gender-sensitive workplaces.
